Artweeks 2—25 May: Art in the County
27 March 2009
Artists and craft
makers across the county will be welcoming the public to their
homes, studios, or shared venues when Artweeks
returns in May. Oxfordshire
Artweeks was the first festival of its kind in the country
in 1982 and has gone from strength to strength, now involving
hundreds of artists at over 400 sites and lasting three weeks.
It opens in the north of the county from 2 May, then moves
to Oxford city and finishes in south Oxfordshire.
Artweeks is a wonderful
opportunity to see art in the community and to meet the people
making it. There is no pressure to buy, as Artweeks
is really about offering a chance for the public and artists
to come together in a low-key, neighbourly setting and share
in the creative activity going on there.
To plan your trek all you need is a free copy of the Artweeks'
Guide which gives full information on every exhibiting artist
together with maps, opening times and contact details. The
Guide is available from all Oxfordshire libraries, tourist
information centres, museums, galleries, shops and many other
public venues from the beginning of April, and will be downloadable
from the Artweeks website. Alternatively, go online at www.artweeks.org
to search for artists by name, location or genre.
Artweeks Dates:
Saturday 2 May to Sunday 10 May, North Oxfordshire
Saturday 9 May to Sunday 17 May, Oxford City
Saturday 16 May to Monday 25 May, North Oxfordshire
