Earth From The Air Exhibition Extended
23 January 2009
The world-famous
Earth
from the Air exhibition that toured to Oxford
Castle in autumn 2008 as part of the Planet
Earth Season has been so popular during its time
in the City that organisers have extended the exhibition for
an extra month. The exhibition which was due to close later
in January will now run until 22 February.
Thousands of Oxford
residents have already seen the huge floodlit prints of images
by world-renowned photographer Yann
Arthus-Bertrand which are accompanied by earth facts and
data highlighting statistics illustrating how our planet is
changing. Over 1000 Oxfordshire school children have taken
part in education sessions linked to the exhibition run by
OISSP (Oxfordshire
Independent/ State School Partnership) and
The
Key Learning Centre at Oxford
Castle Unlocked.
In views ranging
from spectacular panoramas of vast geographical formations
to intimate glimpses of small scale features, Arthus-Bertrand's
photographs give a remarkable account of the world's surface.
His searching lens portrays human settlements, from cities
to desert oases, to varied and exceptional vistas in the world
in extraordinary compositions of light, colour and form.
This awe-inspiring exhibition has wowed millions of visitors
all over the planet.
The FREE
outdoor exhibition can be viewed at any time of day
or night and is suitable for everyone. Supporting the exhibition
is a giant walk-on world map which shows exactly where the
photographs were taken with Agenda for Change facts and figures
that encourage everyone to make small lifestyle changes to
help make a positive difference to our planet, a free film
narrated by the photographer and a dedicated information centre
and shop. For more information, visit www.earthfromtheair.com.
Yann
Arthus-Bertrand's aim was to create a record
of the world's environments as a benchmark for the future.
The photographs show how human activity has impacted our planet
and are a record of what has survived the global mushrooming
of industrial economy and the changes it has wrought.
