Lucy supports Oxford's most spectacular lighting-up time ever

Friday 28 February, 2007

Lucy Properties, the property division of W Lucy and Co, has become a sponsor of Luminox, an exciting civic celebration which is the highlight of Oxfordshire 2007, the year of special events, festivals, anniversaries and cultural highlights celebrating the county's millennium. Luminox takes place from 15–17 March each evening in Oxford's historic Broad Street, where there will be no traffic, lights will be turned off—and the whole street will be transformed into a magical world of fire sculptures, accompanied by live music, coordinated by Oxford Contemporary Music and performed from a specially created wrought iron bandstand. A giant spire and pendulum, created by local artist Ted Dewan will form the centrepiece of the fire garden, and there will also be lanterns decorated by local schoolchildren. The pendulum will swing 1000 times during the evening to symbolise the passing of the years.

Lighting up time starts from 6.30pm and spectators may enjoy Luminox until 10pm. The event is free, although a £1 voluntary contribution is invited.

Lucy chairman Richard Dick said: "Lucy has a proud history in Oxfordshire dating back more than 170 years. We felt it was important to become involved in Oxfordshire's own historic celebration and we are very excited to support Luminox—an inspirational event which the whole family can enjoy".

Kathelene Weiss, development director of Oxford Inspires, which is coordinating Oxfordshire 2007, said: "Without the support of companies like Lucy, unique events such as Luminox would not be able to take place". Luminox is also supported by Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire County Council, Arts Council England and local business. Media partners are BBC Radio Oxford and The Oxford Times.
