Cultural agency Oxford Inspires appoints new
head
Thursday 15 June, 2006
Cultural agency Oxford Inspires
has appointed a new chief executive. Sarah Maxfield, 43, will take over
from Robert Hutchison on 1 September 2006. She is currently head of cultural
development for Kent County Council.
Sarah is an arts manager with
wide ranging senior experience in the public and voluntary arts sectors
at local, regional and national levels. At Kent, she has been responsible
for the development of cultural strategy and programmes for the country’s
largest local authority, which she joined in 2005.
She was also deputy chief executive
of Southern and South East Arts from 2002–2003 where she successfully
led a team of 40 staff through the merger of The Arts Council with the
Regional Arts Boards.
Sarah will be returning to Oxford
where she was a university student at St Hugh’s College, gaining
an honours degree in modern history.
Sarah joins Oxford Inspires
for the run up to Oxfordshire
2007, a major programme of festivals, special events and anniversaries
which the agency is coordinating and marketing next year. She is no stranger
to Oxford Inspires, having brokered the partnership which produced the
city's shortlisted bid to be European Capital of Culture in 2008 and which
established Oxford Inspires as the cultural development agency for Oxfordshire.
Tony Stratton, Oxford Inspires'
Chair said today: "We’re delighted to welcome Sarah to the
team. Oxford Inspires is unique in that it is funded by city and county
councils, the two universities and the Arts Council. Sarah’s experience
embraces all of these bodies and her leadership skills will ensure a strong
and effective transition at this exciting time for Oxford Inspires and
its plans for next year and beyond."
Sarah Maxfield said: "I'm
thrilled to be taking up this role with Oxford Inspires. I have had connections
with Oxfordshire for more than 20 years and am looking forward to working
with the rich mix of creative people in the county over the years to come."
