Inspiring Oxfordshire's future
Wed 13 Apr, 2005
Do Oxfordshire's environmental
activists make a difference? Sustainable Oxfordshire is a one-day event
that will help map the future of environmental activity in Oxfordshire.
It will take place at the Lloyd Lecture Theatre, Oxford Brookes University
from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday 23 April, and will offer participants
a chance to voice their views, celebrate achievements and build partnerships.
The lunch will be made from local and fair trade ingredients and there
will be music, art and dance.
"This event is about maximising
the success of the environmental efforts of everyone in Oxfordshire. We
hope Sustainable Oxfordshire will blaze a trail through the difficult
issues faced by Oxfordshire", says Michael Esvelt of the Environmental
Information Exchange at Oxford Brookes University, one of the event's
organisers.
The conference features local
and national speakers, including: Richard Dudding, Director for Environment
and Economy at Oxfordshire County Council, Brenda Boardman of the Environmental
Change Institute and Robin Buxton of the Northmoor Trust, who will all
address the challenges facing Oxfordshire. Robin Murray, Director of the
Design Council's RED unit, will talk about 'Zero Waste'.
Eka Morgan, Sustainability Officer
at Oxford Inspires says: "Can Oxfordshire's environmental champions
come up with more solutions for change? If Oxfordshire plays to its strengths
of environmental activism, scientific innovation and academic rigour,
then maybe there will be a way through the challenges the county faces."
Sustainable Oxfordshire is
organised by Oxford Inspires, the Environmental
Change Institute (University of Oxford) and Environmental
Information Exchange at Oxford Brookes University and is generously
supported by Oxfordshire
County Council.
