Professor Andrew Goudie is the new Chair of
Oxford Inspires
Wed 4 Aug, 2004
Professor Andrew Goudie has
been appointed as the new Chair of Oxford Inspires, the cultural development
agency for Oxford and Oxfordshire. He succeeds the previous Chair of Oxford
Inspires, Professor Paul Langford, with immediate effect.
Professor Goudie is Master of
St Cross College, a graduate college of Oxford University. He was formerly
Professor of Geography and Head of the School of Geography and the Environment.
He is an Honorary Fellow of Hertford College, President of the Oxford
Branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) and a Patron of
the CPRE Oxfordshire Buildings Preservation Trust.
Commenting on his appointment,
Professor Goudie said: “This is an exciting time to be joining Oxford
Inspires, as it develops its ambitious plans for the Evolving City programme
in 2005 and a countywide festival in 2007. The recent news of the £600,000
Urban Cultural Programme grant from Arts Council England for Evolving
City is a tremendous boost for Oxford. I look forward to working with
the board and staff as this programme and other plans take shape.”
The outgoing Chair of Oxford
Inspires, Paul Langford, said: “It has been a great privilege to
lead Oxford Inspires in taking Oxford’s bid to the shortlist of
the European Capital of Culture competition, and then to see the organisation
established in its new role as a cultural development agency for Oxford
and Oxfordshire. With the recent award to Oxford Inspires from the Urban
Cultural Programme, the organisation has entered a new phase of its existence,
and I felt it was the right time for me to hand over to someone new. I’m
particularly delighted that Andrew Goudie is to be my successor. His experience
will be invaluable to the board and staff as they face the exciting challenges
that lie ahead.”
