Friday 2 February, 2007
The Festival Concert has announced
that Blake
Lapthorn Tarlo Lyons have become a Major Partner in the concert, one
of the key events in Oxfordshire 2007 which celebrates the county's millennium.
The concert will take place on 13 May 2007 in Oxford's South Park, involving
up to 800 performers of all ages—an assembly which could well end
up in the Guinness Book of Records for the number of musicians performing
on an outdoor stage in a single concert.
Jonathan Lloyd Jones, senior partner at Blake Lapthorn Tarlo Lyons, says
"As an Oxford firm of 100 years' standing we are delighted to be
associated with the Festival Concert and Oxfordshire 2007 and look forward
to getting involved alongside our local clients and contacts in this year’s
programme of events".
With the support of Blake Lapthorn
Tarlo Lyons, plans for the Festival Concert have rapidly gained momentum.
Anthony Kerr-Dineen, Festival Concert organiser and Director of Cultural
Activities at St Edward's School, says: "The concert will be a spectacular,
celebratory musical event that draws together the threads of the county’s
rich musical life." The concert's main work is Walton's spectacular
Belshazzar's Feast, performed by a Festival Chorus, Schola Cantorum and
the Oxford University Orchestra. The first half of the programme provides
an exciting platform for Oxfordshire’s young musicians. The county’s
flagship orchestra, the CMS Sinfonia, will open the concert and the première
of a work written specially for the occasion by Oxford composer, John
Madden, will follow. Madden's attractive setting of Circus Songs will
be performed by up to 200 children drawn from a range of state and independent
schools.
The Festival Concert is part
of Oxfordshire
2007, a celebration of Oxfordshire's 1000th birthday through a year
of special events, anniversaries, festivals and cultural highlights. Oxfordshire
2007 showcases the remarkable array of talent that exists in every corner
of the county and represents collaboration between hundreds of cultural

of Oxfordshire's status as a European Centre of Culture and its reputation
as one of the country's most prized visitor destinations. Oxford Inspires,
the county's cultural development agency is providing coordination and
practical help to put on the celebration.
