Oxford
Bus Company driving arts and culture in Oxford
Thursday 1 May 2008
One of Oxford’s
biggest employers, the Oxford
Bus Company will be backing the arts in the area again
this year. The company will be turning its buses into mobile
galleries and backing other cultural activities. The firm
has been serving the city for over 125 years and is committed
to supporting community activities. It has renewed its Corporate
Membership of Oxford Inspires for the 4th year and will also
be supporting Oxford Playhouse. In 2007 it sponsored the “Picturing
the Ashmolean” exhibition which invited children to
imagine the results of the Museum’s current redevelopment.
"The Oxford
Bus Company is proud to support culture in Oxfordshire"
said managing director Philip Kirk, "We enjoyed being
a sponsor of Evolving City in 2005 and of Oxfordshire 2007
and we look forward to a continuing association with Oxford
Inspires and with Oxfordshire’s cultural community."
So in addition to
carrying passengers around the city this year look out for
information on culture in and on Oxford Bus Company buses—they’ll
be highlighting events like Artweeks and also acting as mobile
art galleries. The winning entries from the children's art
competition "Picturing the New Ashmolean" will reach
an audience of tens of thousands as they tour the city throughout
2008 on the back of two Park and Ride buses.
Oxford Inspires
is the cultural development agency for Oxfordshire. It coordinated
the hugely successful county millennium celebrations, Oxfordshire
2007, featuring nearly 350 events and involving more than
300 organisations across the county. Oxford Inspires is currently
finalising plans for an exciting series of events to take
place in 2008 and beyond. Oxford Inspires' corporate
members are all playing a part in putting Oxfordshire's
cultural life on the map, as well as gaining significant networking
and promotional benefits for their companies and staff.
