BMW Group Plant Oxford pledges support for community arts
projects
Tuesday 1 April, 2008
BMW Group Plant Oxford is to play a significant role in bringing
innovative arts events and projects to Oxford in 2008. Working
in partnership with the cultural development agency, Oxford
Inspires, and local arts organisations, the Plant has pledged
its support to a range of community-based projects taking
place throughout the year.
Nikolai Glies, Director of Corporate and Associate Communications,
BMW Group Plant Oxford, said: “Involvement in the local
community is a high priority for us. We were proud to be a
major supporter of Oxfordshire 2007. And I am delighted that,
by renewing our partnership with Oxford Inspires and local
arts organisations in 2008, BMW Group Plant Oxford will continue
to support innovative and accessible events for local people.”
Among the projects to benefit from Plant Oxford’s support
will be The Magic Hour. Taking place over three evenings in
September, this festival of sound and light will transform
the University of Oxford Botanic Garden into an enchanting
nocturnal world. The Magic Hour is a collaboration between
the University and Oxford Contemporary Music.
Plant Oxford’s involvement will also help make this
year’s summer workshop programme at Pegasus Theatre
in East Oxford the most ambitious yet. Over the first three
weeks of the school holidays, Summer Village will engage young
people in a range of creative arts activities, including taster
workshops, dance and street theatre, culminating in a series
of local performances.
The Plant’s support will also benefit an unusual series
of visual arts workshops in Blackbird Leys, Rose Hill, Littlemore
and other local neighbourhoods. Taking place in the spring
and autumn, Family Arts Splash provides opportunities for
family groups to get creative together under the guidance
of professional artists. Led by Fusion Arts, the workshops
will be designed to allow all family members to participate,
whatever their age.
Kathelene Weiss, Director of Development at Oxford Inspires,
said: “We very much welcome the renewal of our partnership
with BMW Group Plant Oxford. Their involvement has made –
and will continue to make – a real difference to our
city’s cultural and community life."
