Oxford Inspires welcomes £15
million Urban Cultural Programme
Weds 3 Mar, 2004
Oxford Inspires today welcomed the
announcement from the Millennium Commission (MC) and Arts Council England
(ACE) of £15 million to help support and develop cultural programmes
in urban environments.
Tessa Jowell, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport said
the grant would help to build on last year’s competition to find
the UK’s Capital of Culture 2008. The bid from Oxford and Oxfordshire
reached the shortlist in that competition.
Commenting on the announcement, Robert Hutchison, Chief Executive of Oxford
Inspires, said, “We welcome this fund, and look forward to applying
for the money. We’re particularly pleased that MC and ACE are inviting
applications to fund cultural programmes such as festivals, in view of
the exciting plans Oxford Inspires has for festival development over the
next three years, which we shall be announcing in April”.
