Oxfordshire
Independent/State School Partnership (OISSP) organises schools
programme to complement the Earth
from the Air exhibition
OISSP believes
there is no better way to inspire students and teachers to
investigate the role of science innovation for sustainable
development than through the upcoming Earth
from the Air exhibition. Having initiated
the exhibition's arrival in Oxford, OISSP is developing a
programme of related school events and workshops called Earth
from the Air: Oxfordshire from the Ground.
Featuring work by the internationally -renowned photographer
Yann Arthus-Bertrand,
these large-scale aerial landscapes will be presented at Oxford
Castle in an impressive outdoor display between September
2008 and January 2009. The successful schools tour of 17 smaller
framed images is already encouraging students to focus on
issues of climate change and sustainability. A celebration
of their imaginative responses will take place this autumn.
By securing this showcase of spectacular images, OISSP hopes
to develop new links between schools, university departments
and the wider community, as well as to inspire a truly local
focus to global problems. This unique programming initiative
is supported by OISSP partners including: The
University of Oxford, Oxfordshire
ClimateXchange, Science
Oxford, wecommunic8,
The Oxford
Castle site’s Key Learning Centre and Oxford
Inspires. Funding from the DCSF will ensure that
all schools will have access to workshops, events and celebrations
during the installation.
Supporters for the exhibition itself include major corporate
sponsor Blake Lapthorn
plus Oxford
Castle Ltd, University
of Oxford Environmental Change Institute (ECI), University
of Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment,
ESRI (UK), Good
Energy, and Best
Foot Forward.
