Oxford’s World Book Capital bid is supported by two local companies

On Monday 23 April 2012, Oxford submitted its bid to become UNESCO World Book Capital in 2014. The bid was assembled by a steering committee of eleven local organisations, with Oxford Inspires as its helm – however the final product would not have been possible without the help of some of Oxford Inspires’ very nearest and dearest.

Two local companies, One ltd and Carbon Colour, were instrumental in creating the final bid that was submitted to the UNESCO judging panel.

One ltd, a design agency based in Summertown, Oxford, faced an interesting challenge: to create a modern and vibrant brand for the city’s World Book Capital bid. And they did just that, working tirelessly on the design of the logo, the website, and of course the bid document itself.

Jemma Proctor, Creative Director at One Ltd, said: "We were delighted to work with Oxford Inspires and the Steering Committee on developing a brand for the city’s World Book Capital bid. We needed an icon for the 21st century; bright, strong colours, layered on top of each other to represent the depth and variety of Oxford’s literature and history – and we think we hit the nail on the head!”

Once the bid document was designed, Oxford Inspires looked to long-standing corporate members Carbon Colour to get it professionally printed. The company are presentation and display specialists based in Milton Park, near Abingdon and have supported Oxford Inspires since its inception.

Nigel Allen, Director of Carbon Colour said: “We immediately recognised the great value this bid holds for Oxford and its residents with the focus on encouraging reading for enjoyment, so felt compelled to help the Steering Committee as they embarked on the final stage of their journey. It’s great to know we played a role in helping deliver the city’s message to UNESCO and can’t wait to hear the final outcome later this year."

The outcome of Oxford’s bid to become UNESCO World Book Capital will be announced during the summer. For more information, please follow this link.
