The Bullpen: The Family Run Rural Arts Centre

The Bullpen is a family-run rural arts centre, based in Stanford in the Vale, Oxfordshire. Over the five years since its creation, The Bullpen has undergone an amazing transformation. Thanks to recent grant funding, as well as ongoing support from the local community, Helen, Wesley, Keith and Beth Jacobs have been able to develop the site so that it now includes gallery, studio and workshop space, all in addition to the foundry itself.

Workshops for artists are held throughout the year in the foundry, and The Bullpen also runs an active programme for visitors (including book-binding, felt making and art history).

SUMMER WORKSHOP: West African Bronze Casting Workshop
Saturday 15th May – Saturday 22nd May

The first of The Bullpen’s 2010 summer events will be the West African Bronze Casting Workshop in May – it will explore traditional mould-making and casting using materials found on the farm, such as buffalo dung, clay, straw and sand. The experimental course is for practising artists to make moulds, prepare a pit furnace and finally cast their own bronze sculptures.

If you would like to participate in a visitor (beginners) workshop, and make your own small bronze item in a cuttlefish-bone mould, please contact The Bullpen (http://www.thebullpen.co.uk) to book a place.

Iron Casting Workshop including a public event on 12th: visit the Bullpen and watch molten iron being poured from the furnace into moulds, it is spectacular!
