Spotlight on: The Banbury Youth Arts Festival 2010
Banbury’s new Youth Arts Festival draws together a number of events and highlights opportunities for young people to engage with music, dance and drama. This years debut is a modest start to what is hoped will become a major cultural highlight in years to come. The festival, which runs from Thursday 1st July to Wednesday 14th July 2010, includes concerts and performances by groups from schools, drama clubs, arts organisations and the Oxfordshire County Music Service.
Highlights of the Festival include two early evening concerts, coordinated by the Music Service with support from Oxford Inspires. Both evenings culminate in a song performed by all the young people taking part – an inspiring tribute to the power of the arts to transform lives.
The festival also features a special concert from Oxford Philomusica, with some of the solo parts undertaken by young musicians from the County Music Service’s top orchestra. This collaboration is a first for both organisations, giving talented young soloists the opportunity to play with a professional orchestra, and young audiences the chance to experience the thrilling sound of a live orchestra, perhaps for the first time.
