Oxfordshire School Children Win Glastonbury Film Competition
A group of year 8 pupils from the North Oxfordshire Academy have won a competition to see their film, entitled Cool it! to be shown on a 25m high screen at this years Glastonbury festival. As a part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, this year’s Glastonbury Festival invited young filmmakers, aged 12 to 24 years, to submit a mix of inspiring, funny, original and challenging films to show on the big screens at the festival in June.
Of the two categories, the Oxfordshire Schoolchildren responded to the second, entitled ‘Hug the Planet’, which called for films with a strong visual narrative focusing on innovative approached to the five themes of sustainability (biodiversity, healthy living, waste, climate change, inclusion).
The film, which was originally made as an ‘enquiry question’ project, was created by the children in collaboration with professional animator David Bunting. It incorporated five animated campaign films exploring what global warming means to young people, how it will affect them, why it is important and what the future might hold. They posed the question "How can we positively respond?"
The project was developed and supported in conjunction with Creative Partnerships Thames Valley and The Animation Station, Banbury.
