Oxford Castle Art Collection Goes Live!
A life-size Great Dane rendered in bronze by award-winning sculptor Lorne McKean, a large scale black and white photograph of the actor John Hurt by celebrity photographer Cambridge Jones and a vivacious drawing of Oxford’s Radcliffe Camera building by local artist Tim Steward are just some of the treasures in the Oxford Castle Art Collection, being revealed in a special exhibition to mark the O3 Gallery’s Fifth Anniversary.
The works have been collected over the years since the Gallery opened its doors in May 2006. Since that time, there have been over 50 exhibitions at the O3 Gallery, and Oxford Castle has purchased at least one work of art from each. The result is a rich accumulation from many of the region’s most talented artists, reflecting the diversity and progression of the art scene in and around Oxford.
While there is no substitute for seeing these works of art for real, the O3 Gallery is also offering the public the opportunity to view all of the works in the collection online. As part of the anniversary commemoration, the Gallery is launching an exciting new online showcase of all of the artworks which make up the Oxford Castle Art Collection.
Trevor Osborne, owner of the O3 Gallery and chairman of the Trevor Osborne Property Group, remarks:
“The O3 Gallery was opened as part of the Oxford Castle Project to provide encouragement and opportunities for talented artists with an Oxfordshire connection. The Oxford Castle collection has been assembled and will grow with each show. I have always intended that we would mount a public exhibition of the collection every 10th Anniversary. In the meantime the growing collection will now be accessed online. It’s our way of sharing!”
The online Archive goes live at 6pm on Friday 22nd July. Information and images about these artworks, plus almost 50 others that make up the Oxford Castle Art Collection, will be publicly accessible from the O3 Gallery website: http://www.o3gallery.co.uk.
