Oxford Castle - Committed to Culture in Oxfordshire
Oxford Castle is a committed supporter of Oxford Inspires, having been part of the cultural development agency’s corporate membership programme for over five years. Oxford Castle, which perfectly combines its own abiding heritage with an urban complex of restaurants and bars, reopened to the public in 2006 to critical acclaim.
In the five years since, Oxford Castle has worked hard to support culture and creativity in the city, playing host to regular cultural events, including music, dance and theatre performances. It also celebrates award-winning Oxfordshire artists through an innovative programme of exhibitions at its own O3 Gallery.
Oxford Castle is fast developing its annual events programme, with 2011 already proving to be one of the most exciting and engaging programmes on offer to date. Highlights of the coming year include a series of events linked to Oxfordshire Artweeks in May, the Oxford Castle Flower and Gardening Festival in June, Britain from the Air from June, the Oxford Castle Food and Wine Festival in September, and of course the Oxford Christmas Market in December.
By working increasingly in partnership with other locally based organisations, Oxford Castle complex is quickly establishing itself as a hub of cultural activity in the city. The range and variety of events on offer also aims to increase the feeling of accessibility to the site, encouraging the people of Oxford to explore - and take ownership of - a part of the city that historically they have never been able to enjoy so greatly or so freely before.
