Oxford Brookes University Studio Award Scheme at the Old Fire Station
Oxford Brookes University is pleased to announce its new partnership project with the newly refurbished Old Fire Station.
The Studio Award Scheme, which is funded and supported by the School of Arts, is an annual competition where final year Arts students are offered the chance to be awarded one of two professional studios.
he studios will be offered for the duration of one year, in order to provide them with a launch pad for their artistic career. In addition, the two selected graduates will also work as assistants to the arts projects being run by Crisis and the Arts Centre at the Old Fire Station, which work with the homeless and those vulnerable and at risk.
This valuable work placement will also extend to assisting with the curation, installation and hanging of exhibitions in the new gallery space, whilst working alongside artists and professional creatives. Their one year residency will culminate in a final year exhibition at the Old Fire Station gallery.
Alison Honour, Head of the School of Arts at Oxford Brookes University, said “This is a truly unique project which will provide an extraordinary opportunity for Arts graduates from Oxford Brookes University to work in the very real world of an Arts organisation.
“Having 24hr access every day to a brand new studio environment will allow them to develop their artistic practice alongside other professional artists. This scheme realises Oxford Brookes University's strategy for enhancing the student experience both in terms of continuing to develop and improve graduate attributes and employability of its students and allows students to have a very positive engagement with the wider community.”
