Outstanding young musicians feature in 2011/12 Oxford Chamber Music Society schedule
Oxford Chamber Music Society has today confirmed the six concerts it will be presenting on Sunday afternoons between October 2011 and April 2012 in the elegant Holywell Music Room.
The Society, which has been successfully promoting music in Oxford since 1898, is especially pleased to present on 30 October: The Elias String Quartet; 20 November: The Fournier Piano Trio; 22 January: The Atrium String Quartet; 12 February: Robert Plane (clarinet) with The Gould Piano Trio; 4 March: The Wihan String Quartet; 22 April: Nicholas Daniel and Britten Oboe Quartet.
As well as bringing established international artists to Oxford, the Society is particularly interested in promoting established young artists. The Atrium String Quartet is ‘one of the most dynamic and charismatic ensembles. The young Fournier Piano Trio has ‘awesome technical ability’ and some see the Elias String Quartet achieving world-class status, ‘the next Amadeus’.
Of the more established artists, Robert Plane and The Gould Piano Trio are highly respected artists with an impressive discography, The Wihan String Quartet are ‘consummate instrumentalists in the great Czech tradition’ and Nicholas Daniel is ‘a formidable virtuoso…one of the greatest oboists in the world’.
As well as promoting established young artists, the Society seeks to attract younger listeners. The intimate Holywell Music Room, with its exquisite acoustics, is the oldest purpose built concert hall in Europe. It provides the ideal setting to enjoy chamber music in live performance.
