MINI Plant Oxford Pledges Continued Investment in County Arts and Culture

MINI Plant Oxford is set to continue its support of local arts and culture throughout 2010 after renewing its corporate membership of Oxford Inspires, the county’s cultural development agency.

Through Oxford Inspires, the Plant has supported a range projects that have included locally focused arts workshops, large outdoor concerts involving local residents, youth theatre schemes and magical spectacles such as ‘Luminox’ and the ‘Magic Hour’. The recently renewed agreement will make the Plant a major partner for 2010, and will continue the pattern of active community involvement that it has successfully developed over recent years.

In addition, through its involvement with Oxford Inspires, Plant Oxford is supporting the local arts organisation CIAO!, as they develop innovative arts and science project, the Ark. The project, which encourages local children to think about the positives of low carbon living, will now benefit from the Plant’s long-held interest in environmental sustainability (as evidenced by the recent development of the 100% electric, zero-emissions MINI E). Over the next month, engineers from the Plant will visit participating primary schools in order to lead workshops that encourage children to think about and explore the future of transport.

Dr Jürgen Hedrich, managing director of MINI Plant Oxford, said: “Involvement in the local community is a high priority for us, and we have been keen to develop the role that we play in it year by year. I am delighted that, by renewing our partnership with Oxford Inspires and local arts organisations in 2010, MINI Plant Oxford will continue to support innovative and accessible events for Oxfordshire people.”

Kathelene Weiss, Director of Development at Oxford Inspires, said: “MINI Plant Oxford and Oxford Inspires have built a strong partnership over recent years, and we are delighted to be able to continue our collaboration with them in 2010. Plant Oxford is a true advocate; their involvement has become integral to building the environment for a strong and vibrant arts sector, and their support will continue to make a real difference to our city’s cultural and community life.”
