MINI Plant Oxford becomes driving force behind Oxford’s Christmas Lantern Procession

MINI Plant Oxford has pledged its support to this year’s children’s lantern procession, which takes place in Oxford city centre on Christmas Light Night.

The partnership between the Plant and Oxford Inspires will enable a number of school and community lantern making workshops to take place. Local artists will work with the children to create unique puppet-style lanterns, which will then be carried in a spectacular procession through the city streets on the evening of Friday 2 December.

Associates of MINI Plant Oxford will be providing support to the lantern making workshops in the run up to the evening, and will also be on hand during the event itself- helping to ensure that the procession is a success for everyone involved.

Dr Jürgen Hedrich, Managing Director of MINI Plant Oxford, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this event again. It’s something that the whole community can get involved with. We’re looking forward to building upon the hands-on work that our engineers undertook last year working with participating schools to help children build their lanterns.”

Christmas Light Night is Oxford’s annual celebration of Christmas; a unique evening combining the switch on of the city’s lights with an exciting programme of processions, dance, art, live music and performance.

Kathelene Weiss, Director of Oxford Inspires, said: “We are delighted that MINI Plant Oxford has chosen to support the procession again. The direct involvement of their associates not only helps to support local children playing a creative role in one of Oxford’s largest community events, but also demonstrates the Plant’s continued commitment to developing and supporting arts and culture.”

Christmas Light Night is being co-ordinated by Oxford Inspires, Oxford City Council and Ian Nolan Events Ltd on behalf of communities and cultural organisations across the city. The key partners for the event are the Ark-T Centre, OCM, Oxford Castle and the University of Oxford.

Exciting activities will be taking place in many of the city’s cultural venues including the Pitt Rivers Museum, the Ashmolean Museum, the Bodleian Library, the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford Playhouse, Oxford Castle, the Museum of Oxford and Town Hall, St Michael at the North Gate, St Ebbe's Church, the Old Fire Station, Modern Art Oxford, the Story Museum, the O3 Gallery and the Jacqueline du Pre Music Building. OCM, OFVM, OVADA, Creation Theatre Company and Oxford Improvisers will also be taking part in the celebrations.
