Funding Opportunities

There are currently a number of funding opportunities available for arts and cultural organisations, many with closing dates for applications coming up over the next few months. In this, the first of a series of regular funding updates, we wanted to share the details of these opportunities with you.


For further information about funding opportunities in Oxfordshire, please visit the OCVA website. OCVA is the main umbrella body for the Oxfordshire voluntary and community sector, and provides funding advice (including a monthly funding newsletter), as well as information and training opportunities to voluntary organisations throughout the county.

1. BBC Children in Need: Disadvantaged Children & Young People

Children in Need grants are available for UK charities and not for profit organisations working with disadvantaged children and young people. Within the general grants programme, you can apply for small grants of £10,000 or less per year for up to three years, and main grants over £10,000 per year for up to three years.

2. PRS for Music foundation: Music Creators, Performers, Promoters

PRS for Music Foundation is looking to support music creators, performers and promoters who are involved in creatively adventurous or pioneering musical activity. It does this by offering a wide range of funding schemes for new music activity.

3. Wellcome Trust – Peoples Awards (UK)

Awards of up to £30,000 are available under the Wellcome Trust's Peoples Awards for projects that encourage public debate and understanding of biomedical science. Projects can be funded for up to three years and can include activities such as:

• workshops and seminars
• arts projects for a variety of different audiences and age groups
• teaching materials or techniques to encourage wider discussions
• projects that utilise the collections of the Wellcome Library and the Wellcome Collection at the Science Museum.

Applications can be made by a wide variety of individuals, organisations and partnerships.

4. Clore Poetry and Literature Awards

The Clore Poetry and Literature Awards fund poetry and literature initiatives for children and young people, under the age of 19, across the UK. The Awards are worth a total of £1m over five years, 2011 to 2015, with individual awards ranging from £1,000 to £10,000. The Clore Duffield Foundation has created these Awards with the aim of providing children and young people with opportunities to experience poetry and literature in exciting and compelling ways, in and out of school.

5. Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund

The Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund, run by the Museums Association, focuses on time-limited collections work outside the scope of an organisation’s core resources. Through this fund the MA will award approximately £800,000 per year to museums, galleries and heritage organisations with two grant rounds per year. Organisations can apply for sums between £20,000 and £100,000.

6. Ideas Tap: Emerging Arts talent

IdeasTap is a creative network and funding body for emerging young arts talent. They're a not-for-profit organisation, bringing creative people together and offering cash funding and opportunities to showcase your work. They are offering 10 projects £1,000 each to help get them off the ground.

7. Idlewild Trust: Arts, Historic and/or important buildings

The Idlewild Trust makes grants to registered charities (not to individuals) concerned with the encouragement of excellence in the performing and fine arts and the preservation for the benefit of the public of buildings and items of historical interest or national importance. Occasional support is given to bodies for educational bursaries in these fields and for conservation of the natural environment.

8. Gibbs Trust: Christian, Ecumenical, Arts Education Social, International

The Gibbs Trust Funds innovative undertakings by Methodist churches and organisations, other Christian causes (especially of an ecumenical nature) and a wider category within
the fields of the creative arts, education, social and international concerns. Many of the grants given are for between the sums of £1,000 and £3,000.

9. The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2011

The Christmas Challenge 2011 is almost ready to open for applications. As in 2010, the event will see online donations to participating charities doubled. The Big Give promotes the work of 7,000+ charities to philanthropists, foundations, companies and public donors. Your charity can register on the site for free, and use the matched funding services to inspire your supporters to give more.
