Dancin’ Oxford 2012 is fast approaching!
Going in its sixth year, the festival is proud to present an inspiring and exciting dance programme
Get ready for vibrant, high quality performances by various artists & companies, workshops, films, a conference and taster sessons designed to get everyone dancing! One of the brand new and very exciting editions for Dancin' Oxford 2012 is the first innovative digital dance trail using a location-based App..
Some of the festival highlights coming up this year include:
The return of French aerial company Retouramont who wowed audiences last year with their breathtaking display performed high on the walls within Oxford Castle. This year its new work Danse des Cariatides is a visually stunning performance by 5 dancers, fusing aerial dance, a unique soundscape and projection high within the walls of Oxford Castle. (FREE event)
The Digital Dance Trail which will take audiences to a number of Oxford city centre locations to experience a compelling and stunning set of commissioned video dance works overlaid onto specific significant sites using the smart phone camera - mixing reality with an engaging digital “augmented” layer. Participants will be able to download the free location-aware smart phone app (called ‘4step’) from iTunes App Store and Android Marketplace from 18 February. (FREE event)
For the very first time, Dancin’ Oxford and Pegasus are hosting a Baby Boogie for the under-5s and their families - a chance to do take part in a workshop and learn some fun moves with professional dancers followed by a Disco! (Workshop optional)
The Festival Launch event (with a series of explosive dance performances in the City Centre) will be followed by an Intergenerational Dance Day - with opportunity to take part in a dance workshop with a partner (who is 10 years older or younger than you!) led by Cecilia Macfarlane and Alan Kenny, and a performance in the evening by Crossover Intergenerational Dance Company and guests. (Workshop participants will have the option to perform in the evening with the company – as long as you are available (with your partner) for afternoon rehearsals).
Calling all young men (aged 14 yrs & over)…for Boyz Dancin’. A 2-day workshop with Kevin and Anthony from Company Chameleon (a vibrant all-male contemporary dance company based in the North-West). A one-off opportunity for all young men interested in dance (with or without prior experience).. A chance not to be missed!
Chance also to see exceptional work by national and international dance companies including Blanca Li, Tavaziva Dance Company, Sonia Sabri, and new work by some of Oxford’s finest choreographers..
The Festival includes many other high quality dance events, including the chance to get dancing and try out new styles with the ever popular Dance-A-Thon (45-min taster sessions)...there's something for everyone!
