Oxford Inspires Cultural Platform with Philip Pullman
Oxford Inspires' Cultural Platforms have, over the years, played host to many distinguished speakers, and 2010 promises to be no exception. For our seventh event, we have invited acclaimed author Philip Pullman to share his own perspectives on contemporary cultural issues and the value of culture in modern times. The talk, which will be held at the Saïd Business School in March, will not only be open to invited guests but will also – for the first time – invite participation from the general public via a live web-cast of the talk, and through a web chat with Pullman himself.
Pullman has written over 28 books, including the "His Dark Materials” trilogy, the Sally Lockhart series and “The New-Cut Gang”, several of which have been adapted for the stage and screen. His awards include the CBE in 2004, and the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for children’s literature in 2005. In 2007 he became an honorary freeman of the city of Oxford and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Oxford University in 2009. Pullman’s distinguished career history and close relationship with Oxford and the county ensure that this talk is not one to be missed.
As part of Oxford Inspires’ new digital initiative, you will now be able to view Philip’s talk both as a live web-cast, and for a limited time afterwards using the media player on our website. Furthermore, Pullman will also be participating in a web-chat just prior to the Platform – the topic is of course culture, and we need your contribution!
