Creation Theatre Company brings brand new version of 'A Christmas Carol' to Oxford's The North Wall
This Christmas the company will conjure up an atmospheric Dickensian London, in the most appropriate setting of The North Wall’s converted Victorian swimming pool. Having spent many thoroughly happy and creative Christmases at MINI Plant Oxford, this year Creation felt it was time for a new adventure. Creation’s new version of A Christmas Carol will be performed at The North Wall from 8 December 2011 to 7 January 2012 with press night on Tuesday 13 December. Box Office 01865 766266 or book online at http://www.creationtheatre.co.uk
This year’s festive performance will be a true “community offering” and for the first time ever the company will be casting a number of their Drama Club children in the roles of Tiny Tim and Martha Cratchit. Three boys and three girls will share the roles over the four week long run, offering the talented club members a chance to share the stage with the professionals and giving audiences a chance to spot the Creation stars of the future.
This brand new version of Dickens' classic tale has been adapted by Creation actor/writer team, Richard Kidd and Conor McReynolds and has been further developed through workshops led by Associate Director, Charlotte Conquest. Charlotte’s previous shows for Creation have included Rapunzel or The Magic Pig (Mirror Tent), Romeo and Juliet (Saïd Business School), Othello (Baptist Church in Bonn Square) and Twelfth Night (Headington Hill Park).
A Christmas Carol will be the farewell production for Creation Theatre Company’s founder and Artistic Director, David Parrish. In the role of producer for this show, David is looking forward to creating an extra special, extra Christmassy show for Oxford to remember him by: "Creation has had 10 quite fantastic years, so far, working with MINI Plant Oxford, including seven great Christmases, six being in the ever popular Mirror Tent. However, we love to regularly offer our audiences new experiences so we were excited to hear that the gorgeous North Wall was available this December. We are also pleased to say that the wonderful Michel and his mouth watering crêperie are coming with us! Of course, we hope to be back at the Plant in the future and will use the Mirror Tent again. This is the last show I will be responsible for at Creation and I plan to make it something extra special."
The start of 2012 will see a new programme from a new Artistic Director, James Erskine, as he joins Creation from the Gate Theatre, Notting Hill.
