A new beginning for Cogges Manor Farm
After nearly 2 years of closure, Cogges Manor Farm will re-open to the public on Sunday 17th July.
The lease has been signed and the keys handed over. Cogges Heritage Trust has now formally taken over the running of Cogges from Oxfordshire County Council.
The former farm museum is evolving into a 21st century smallholding and a place open to everyone to find out about the food we grow, buy, prepare and eat. Its buildings and land tell stories of the past and remind us how previous generations have adapted to changing economic and agricultural circumstances.
2011 - The Starting Point
Cogges' evolution won't happen overnight. This year, visitors can visit the working walled garden, where volunteers and children have been preparing the beds and planting fruits and vegetables; picnic under the apple trees in the Manor’s orchard; and stroll down to the banks of the Windrush River.
At weekends, the house will be open to show how the landowner lived at the end of the 19th century, with the smell the drop-scones cooking on the Victorian range or bread baking in the medieval bread oven. There will be opportunities for children to try their hands in the mud-pie kitchen, follow trails around the site and help bake loaves of bread.
More than a Café
The Real Food Café (the latest venture from Oxfordshire’s Natural Bread Company) will be open for great food and coffee. Their on-site shop will sell hand-crafted, artisanal, naturally leavened breads, cakes and pastries.
