The Oxford Castle Big Lunch

Imagine a summer's day on which millions of us, throughout the UK, sit down to have lunch together - in the middle of our streets, around our estates and on every patch of common ground. A day to break bread, raise a glass, and to spread smiles across Britain's face. Well, imagine no more. It's called The Big Lunch and we would like to invite the people and friends of Oxford to join the fun at The Oxford Castle Big Lunch!

The Oxford Castle Big Lunch is an opportunity to get together with friends and neighbours, old and new, between 11am and 3pm on Sunday 18th July 2010 as a simple act of community spirit at Oxford Castle. Enjoy an afternoon of free family friendly entertainment, and make the most of some enticing Oxford Castle Big Lunch money-off vouchers at selected restaurants with the purchase of food.

Pick up a picnic blanket, grab a spot on the grass, or reserve a table at one of the many restaurants... order your drinks and tuck into some great food and great conversation amidst the gorgeous grounds of the Oxford Castle site, and enjoy the entertainment of offer!

The Big Lunch is an Eden Project initiative, established last year to encourage communities to come together, eat together, and make merry together on shared ground! Last year over 8,000 Big Lunches took place in every kind of community across the UK... and this year there'll be a Big Lunch at Oxford Castle - be part of it!

The Oxford Castle Big Lunch (OX1 1AY), will kick off at around 11:00am on Sunday 18th July. Spread the word and encourage others to have a slice of the action by registering to join The Oxford Castle Big Lunch on the Big Lunch website.

The Big Lunch on Sunday 18th July coincides with the annual Archaeology Day, part of The Festival of British Archaeology. Oxford Castle Unlocked is celebrating the day by presenting the public with an opportunity to learn about their local heritage, to see archaeology in action, and to get involved in free guided tours of Oxford Castle, free access to the ancient mound, and free entry for children to the Oxford Castle Unlocked Visitor Attraction.

Bring friends and neighbours and basque beneath the bunting on picnic blankets (or in ponchos); treat yourselves to a take-away table or a table at one of the many restaurants. Find a patch of grass or a spot from which to watch the world go by, but most importantly, soak up the spirit, make the most Archaeology Day and enjoy!
