Oxfordshire Theatre Company Dizzy With Anticipation
Oxfordshire Theatre Company’s 2010-11 season opens at Cornerstone Arts Centre, Didcot on the 25th September with an Autumn tour of Vertigo by Jonathan Holloway. The production will be touring to arts centres and rural venues throughout Oxfordshire and the UK, including a public performance in the unique environment of the JR Hospital on the 1st November.
The cast includes local actor Steve Dineen as the leading man, Roger Flavieres and regular West End performer, Sophia Thierens as the mysterious and enigmatic Madeleine. “I am delighted to be working with such a talented cast of experienced actors to bring to life this iconic story” commented Director, Karen Simpson. “Alfred Hitchcock, James Stewart and Kim Novak are hard acts to follow but I know the company are more than capable of adding some surprises of their own for our audiences!”
She went on to add “I found the challenge of bringing Hitchcock’s film to the stage irresistible, and when I discovered the story was based on an even darker and more challenging French novel, I was hooked.” Joining Karen Simpson on the creative team are international theatre composer, Ivan Stott and award-winning designer, Laura McEwen. Together the team will bring to life the illusion of the different locations within this thrilling story through a combination of new music; theatrical invention and conceptual design continuing Oxfordshire Theatre Company’s reputation for its strong aesthetic and high production values.
Set in France in the 1940’s, Vertigo tells the story of a man trapped by his past and crippled by his fear of heights. Introduced by psychiatrist, Dr Jacques Ballard, audiences will discover the fascinating case of Roger Flavieres, a retired police officer, who is hired to follow the wife of an old friend. When the mysterious Madeleine captivates his heart, is the relationship what is seems or something far more sinister in this compelling story of obsession, murder, and manipulation?
