Calling All Aspiring Playwrights!
Oxford Playhouse has just launched its regional New Writing Competition 2010. Open to playwrights across the South East, this competition will give the winning writer the opportunity to have their work staged in the Burton Taylor Studio, professionally directed and marketed by Oxford Playhouse.
This is a fantastic opportunity for any ambitious writer. This year’s competition will be judged by award winning playwright Douglas Maxwell. Maxwell’s play Decky Does A Bronco is coming to Oxford Playhouse this summer as a part of the exciting Playhouse Plays Out initiative, taking shows to new venues and attracting new audiences.
Decky Does A Bronco won numerous awards when it premiered in 2000 including a prestigious Fringe First Award and the Barclay Card Stage Award for Best Touring Production. This is an exciting opportunity to have your work read by an internationally successful playwright!
Last year's winner was Oxford’s Lita Doolan, whose play Storm made a strong impression with audience and critics alike. Lita enthuses about the competition saying, "it's an intense, rewarding and exhilarating experience and has shaped my writing in such a positive way."
The deadline for submissions this for this year is Friday 25 June with the winning entry staged in the Burton Taylor Studio in early September. Aspiring playwrights should log onto the Oxford Playhouse website and download a submissions pack.
